Welcome to Battledawn, a real-time strategy game that puts you in command of your own army of shock troops and odd experts. With this, you can vie for dominance in a post-apocalyptic world against other players who are also aiming for the same.
You can see its brilliance right from the very start. A voice-based tutorial agent greets you the moment you enter the game’s world for the very first time. This is a welcome change, as most MMORTS games don’t feature such functionality even though Internet connections nowadays are capable of streaming audio together with the data needed to play online games.
There are certain activities that you can expect to keep on doing here in this game. First, you’ll be busy buffing up your colonies in preparation for conquest and to defend against other similar attempts by other players. You’re under protection for the first 36 hours, roughly, so use that time to build up your defenses and your armed forces.
Take a look at the game map. You’ll see lots of colonies near you. All of these are owned by other players, and they are open for you to attack and loot from. Take note, however, that if you attack them before your protection expires, then you prematurely lose your own protection as well.
The game’s world is big, but this is where the beauty of Battledawn lies. Do you have a colony that you want to take over, but it’s too far away for you to attack? You can lay siege to it by building outposts near them. Through outposts, you can deploy your forces to a location very near to your target and threaten it.
Simply click on a blank spot in the map, and choose “Build Outpost” from the resulting menu. Voila! Your outpost will be constructed and ready to pose a threat to the target. It can, of course, be attacked by other players.
Of course, if you are to build an army, you will have to train your recruits. You can do that by building a Barracks on your colony.
You also have to amass and build up your resources. You need to have a lot of resources on hand in order to support the upkeep of your colony, and the army that you will build in order to fight for and defend it. That’s one of the reasons why you should attack other colonies – to loot their resources.
No man is an island, or so the saying goes. You can reach out to other guilds and build alliances. Having alliances give you access to armies that are ready to help you out in a moment’s notice. If somebody more powerful than you are attacked and ravaged your colony, you can expect your more powerful guild members to attack that player in retaliation.
You can play Battledawn without the need for registering if you want to give it a try. However, there are certain actions that you cannot do unless you register. Anyway, registration is free, so what’s there to lose?
