Have you always wanted command of your own army and pillage, plunder and conquer your way to supremacy? Well, that’s not the way the world works nowadays, but you can still be your own general when you play real-time strategy games.
There’s plenty of these out there in the market, but there’s one that you might want to check out. This one is called Storm of Wars, and it’s totally free to play. You just need to log in to your Facebook account, and look for it there.
This is one of those games that require the Gameroom app, because the data needs to be downloaded and installed into your system. It takes but a few minutes to initialize the game, and you’re good to go. So, if you haven’t downloaded the latest version of Gameroom yet, do so now and then you can install this MMORTS.
When you start the game, you’re automatically thrust into the global scale of conflict that the world of the game is embroiled in. Factions and alliances are formed; kingdoms fight against one another to gain supremacy. It’s all about the resources – the game’s world is amazingly rich in natural resources like mithril, iron ore, gold and others.
The most powerful general of all gets to take everything from the bowl, and that is your goal when you play Storm of Wars.
When you begin, you’re greeted by your chief of staff. Without a lot of talk, you’re given your first taste of battle. You need to come to your ally’s aid, with reinforcements to break the enemy’s siege around his kingdom. A powerful general also comes to your help and, together, you attack the enemy that has your ally surrounded.
This also serves as a tutorial for the game’s battles. To deploy, simply click on a unit and then click on a location you want to place them in. Each click unleashes only one individual soldier, so if you have 10 archers, for instance, you have to click 10 times as well to deploy all of those units.
Be strategic with your deployments; you lose the battle the moment all your units are defeated.
When you’ve demolished all of your opponents’ structures, you win the battle.
Your armies are used for various purposes. For one, you can send a contingent to camp out on a resource area like a Mithril Pond. This contingent will “steal” those resources for you while you go turn your focus back to constructing your city. This army will have a limit as to how much resources they can carry, and they’ll march back to your city when this is reached.
You can also override that, of course, and recall the army when you need to.
Of course, you also send these armies to spy or raid enemy cities. These cities can either be cities managed by other players, or environmental opponents.
Bear in mind that other players can attack you too, so it’s best to join a guild so you can call on help when you need it. Guilds can protect you from other players, retaliate for you when you’re attacked and crippled, or assist in the construction of your buildings.
Grow your city by building huts for your occupants, administrative buildings to increase your power, and resource facilities so you can produce your own resources in addition to collecting them from the world map.
All of these are yours to enjoy when you play Storm of Wars on Facebook, via the Gameroom app.
