The genre of MMORTS games is a vast one and these games have seen multitudes of settings and themes throughout the years. Some games are medieval, some have a fantasy oriented setting, some are futuristic, some are modern and some even take place in the depths of outer space. However, surprisingly enough, MMORTS games based on the Wild West are quite uncommon. As its name suggests, The West is an exciting MMO that takes place in the dangerous West, a place in which there’s never a dull moment.

Getting the hang of things in The West can be a tad bit challenging since the game is quite unique and therefore has a variety of distinct gameplay elements. Fortunately, the game comes with a very in-depth and detailed tutorial sequence that’ll explain all the basics to you. Although the tutorial is quite informative, one small issue with it is the fact that it completely restricts players from doing anything until they’ve fully completed it and this can be a tad bit tedious for some players.

Onto the gameplay, The West is sure to have you entertained for as long as you play it. The game features one of the highest quality questing systems that we’ve seen in quite some time now. The questing system of The West makes sure that players always have something to do and this prevents the gameplay from ever becoming dull. It’s worth mentioning that some of the quests can be a tad bit challenging at times but they’re usually worth the effort because the rewards offered upon their completion are quite generous.

Character development in The West is also very intriguing. Players are given an absolutely massive array of skills and abilities that they can level up for their main character. The skill tree of the game is enormous and due to this there are multiple different kinds of ways you can build your character. We highly recommend experimenting with different types of builds to figure out which one suits your play-style the most.

The West also features a very intriguing dueling system. You can challenge an AI opponent or any other player from around the world and once a challenge has been accepted, both characters will enter a shooting sequence. There are many different factors that determine the outcome of the shooting such as character builds and equipment. It’s rather unfortunate that you can’t directly have any control during the duels since that would have made things tenfold more enjoyable but, nonetheless, the combat system is quite engaging.

As for visuals, The West manages to execute the Wild West theme with perfection. The character designs are spot-on, the art style is top notch, the animations and special effects are quite fluid, the color palette is vibrant and the user-interface is very sleek as well. One minor gripe we have with the game’s visuals is that the textures seem to have a bit of noise on them but this issue is hardly noticeable and probably won’t have any major impact on your gameplay unless you’re specifically looking for noise in your textures.

The West also comes with a bunch of micro-transactions through which players can get their hands on in-game resources and currency that they can then use however they prefer.

All said and done, The West is a very intriguing MMORTS that features a distinct setting and gameplay that can have anyone hooked from the very first minute.
